What is a road-legal plate?
A road-legal number plate meets the legal requirements to be displayed on a vehicle used on a public road in the UK. That means it shows your correct registration in the mandatory font, with the legally required character sizes and spacing, a single solid black character colour on a reflective background (white front, yellow rear), and it is manufactured to the British Standard BS AU 145e. What is a show plate?
A show plate is a novelty or display plate that does not meet road-legal requirements. It may use non-standard fonts, styling, colours, spacing or layouts that would not be permitted on the road.
