Design Your Number Plates Online
Build road-legal or show plates in your browser, see the exact price as you choose, and have them made to order in East Barnet, North London. From £16.99 a plate with free UK delivery.
What our online number plate maker does
The builder is the whole ordering process in one page. You type the registration, pick whether the plate is road legal or a show plate, choose the finish and the size for the front and rear separately, and add fixings if you need them. Nothing is estimated — the price on screen is recalculated from your actual choices, and the same figures are re-checked on our server before you pay, so the total you see is the total you are charged.
Plates are not pulled off a shelf. Every one is pressed and finished to order after the order is confirmed, which is why you can combine sizes and finishes freely rather than picking from a handful of fixed bundles.
How to make number plates in four steps
- Enter your registration. Road-legal plates are laid out with correct DVLA spacing automatically, so you do not have to work out the gaps. Show plates keep your text exactly as typed.
- Choose road legal or show. Road-legal plates carry BS AU 145e markings and our supplier details. Show plates are for display and off-road use only.
- Pick the finish and size. Standard 2D, 3D Gel, 4D 3mm, 4D Gel or 4D Retro, in whichever of our sizes fits your vehicle. Front and rear are independent.
- Check out and send your documents. Pay securely, then upload proof of identity and entitlement for road-legal orders. We make the plates once those are approved.
Finishes you can have made
Five finishes, all made to the same road-legal specification unless you order them as show plates:
- Standard 2D — from £16.99. Flat printed characters on a reflective BS AU 145e plate. The clean factory look.
- 3D Gel — from £21.99. Domed gel resin characters that catch the light. The most common upgrade from standard.
- 4D 3mm — from £23.99. Laser-cut 3mm acrylic characters that physically stand off the plate.
- 4D Gel — from £27.99. Laser-cut depth with a gloss gel crown over the top.
- 4D Retro — from £31.99. Raised characters with a retro-styled edge.
Not sure which to pick? The 2D, 3D and 4D comparison guide sets them side by side, and the styles page shows each one on a real vehicle.
Sizes we make plates in
The standard UK car plate is 520×111mm, and that is what most vehicles take. We also make short, hex, motorbike, square import and oversize plates. Because front and rear are chosen independently, a car that needs a standard front and a shorter rear is a normal order rather than a special request.
Motorbike plates are the one size priced in their own right rather than as an uplift on the finish: £20.99 in Standard 2D and £39.99 in 4D 3mm. Those are the only two processes made in that size — the smaller blank does not take gel or retro finishes. The full breakdown is on the pricing page, and the sizes page compares every fitment.
Road-legal plates and the documents you need
We are a DVLA-registered number plate supplier. That means road-legal plates are made on BS AU 145e components with the correct character font, dimensions, spacing and supplier markings — and it also means we are required to check who you are and that you are entitled to the registration before we make them.
You will need proof you are entitled to the registration, usually your V5C logbook or new-keeper slip, plus proof of identity. Uploading them takes under a minute and happens after checkout. The full accepted list is on documents required, and road-legal number plates explains what makes a plate legal in the first place.
Ordering a show plate with novelty text needs no documents. A show plate carrying a real vehicle registration is document-checked in exactly the same way as a road-legal one.
Free UK delivery and dispatch timing
UK delivery is free on every order, with no minimum spend. Orders placed before 3pm on a working day may be dispatched the same working day, subject to production capacity, payment completion and — for road-legal plates — document approval. After 3pm, at weekends or on bank holidays, dispatch is normally the next working day. These are estimates rather than guarantees.
Delivery and dispatch covers this in full, and if you are ordering locally, same-day number plates in North London explains how the 3pm cutoff works for nearby customers.
Number plate maker FAQs
How do I make my own number plates online?
Open the plate builder, type your registration, then choose road-legal or show, the finish, the front and rear sizes and any accessories. The price updates as you go. For road-legal plates you upload proof of identity and proof of entitlement after checkout, and we make the plates once those are approved.
Do you make both front and rear plates?
Yes — front or rear individually, or as a pair. Front and rear sizes are chosen separately in the builder, so you can order a standard front and a shorter rear if that is what your vehicle needs.
Are the plates you make road legal?
Every plate sold as road legal is made to BS AU 145e with the correct font, dimensions, spacing and supplier markings, by a DVLA-registered number plate supplier. Show plates are the exception — they are for off-road and display use and are marked as such.
What documents do I need to have plates made?
Proof that you are entitled to the registration — usually your V5C logbook or new-keeper slip — plus proof of identity. This is a legal requirement for road-legal plates, not a preference of ours. See the documents required page for the full accepted list.
How much does it cost to have number plates made?
Standard 2D plates start at £16.99 per plate, 3D Gel at £21.99, 4D 3mm at £23.99, 4D Gel at £27.99 and 4D Retro at £31.99. Size affects the price on some fitments — a motorbike plate is £20.99 in Standard 2D and £39.99 in 4D 3mm. UK delivery is free on every order.
How quickly can you make my plates?
Plates are made to order after your order is confirmed and, for road-legal plates, after your documents are approved. Orders placed before 3pm on a working day may be dispatched the same working day, subject to production capacity, payment and document approval. Timings are estimates, not guarantees.
Can you make a plate for an imported or non-standard vehicle?
Yes. As well as the standard 520×111mm size we make short, hex, motorbike, square import and oversize plates. The builder only offers the size and finish combinations we can actually produce, so anything it lets you order is something we can make.

Everything above happens in one place. Open the builder, type your registration and see your exact price before you commit to anything.
